Do you need Fluoride?

Posted .

When you think about different things you can add to your diet or oral health routine to help prevent cavities and improve the health of your mouth, you probably don’t think about using fluoride.

However, Jackie Brown and the rest of our team here at JC Brown, DDS in Germantown, Tennessee, highly recommends the use of fluoride in your oral health routine.

What is it?

Fluoride is a naturally-occurring substance that’s been proven time and time again to help prevent cavities and bolster overall oral health. Despite the back-and-forth online articles heralding or decrying the use of fluoride, the truth is that the American Dental Association (ADA) has proven that fluoride is a good additive to your oral health routine and poses no health risk.

What does it do?

Fluoride mainly helps your teeth regenerate enamel lost due to your daily diet. The enamel is the outermost layer of your teeth, and protects the rest of your teeth from infection and cavities. Fluoride helps combat the enamel-eroding substances in our daily diets and keep your teeth as strong as possible.

Where do I get it?

Some cities add it to their water, while others don’t. If you feel you need or want more, you can get a toothpaste with fluoride added or you can ask Jackie Brown for fluoride supplements.
